Stanced cars are a pretty controversial topic around these parts, some people love them, some hate them, some tolerate them to a degree. Personally, I don't like 90% of them as they're mostly performance oriented cars that have been ruined (WRX STIs, EVOs, Genesis Coupes, BMWs etc etc) so someone, usually a kid, can park in a McDonalds parking lot and mean mug anyone who looks at it with a frowny face. But then there are the ridiculous cars in Japan, where this trend started, that I love. The VIP sedans. The Toyota Aristo and Nissan Cima with ridiculous amounts of camber and aftermarket luxury-esque features.

Kinja'd!!!

I've spoken with quite a few stance enthusiasts who unfunctionalize their fast cars at various car meets here in Jersey and I realized something. Most of these kids aren't even car enthusiasts. Not all of them, but a lot of them have just had mommy and daddy buy them expensive suspension components and then sent their cars to shops to have them installed. Because they don't know how to replace a suspension.

Kinja'd!!!

The people I've spoken to claim that they do it because it "looks clean" and that's it. They don't seem to understand how bad getting a car extremely low can be for said car. I know I shouldn't care and I should respect everyones builds but when people start modifying cars without knowing what they're doing, it kinda gets to me. Maybe it's different elsewhere and the folks who like lowering and cambering their cars know what their doing but here in Jersey, kids do it because it adds to their "swag". And that's frustrating. To claim you're an enthusiast because you paid someone else to lower your car and then not know a damn thing about the mods done to said car? No, an enthusiast would know every single mod done to his/her car.

Kinja'd!!!

The difference between the two types of car lowering/cambering/stancing is that those big VIP sedans keep a luxurious theme and don't usually have stretched tires. Plus a lot of them are on air suspension. Here though, these kids like to fit wide wheels on narrow tires and slap a million "swag" "illest" "stancenation" stickers all over their cars. If you want it just to look good in a parking lot, fine. But the stickers look tacky and the outstretched tires don't even look safe to drive on, so those "daily driven" stickers make me want to stay 4 lanes away from you in case your tire inevitably destroys itself.

This is a rant that makes no sense but god damn I'm so tired of little shits telling me they have more swag since their car is lower or has more stickers even though their cars frame is in tiny pieces all over the highway.

Looks like after the cima gone, my Crown will be the next.

I've made it a point to avoid people who use the word "swag" unironically.

What if I use the word swag ironically, but then people assume that my deadpan means I am serious and then think I am unironically using the word swag ironically?

Actually more and more current Japanese vip builds use static suspension while the rest of the world is leaning towards bagged vip cars. Also tire stretch is far from unheard of in vip builds. I like stance but I mostly agree with you 'because swag' isn't proper reason to build a car and you should at least know what the mods you want do to your car.

All these kids driving Evos and STis, yelling "YOLO SWAG" at every intersection, and I'm just sitting here driving an old Focus.

Kids are dumb and they will do dumb things in order to gain popularity or look cool. That's the way it has always been. Back in the stone age we used to put air shocks on the back of our cars to jack up the ass end in order to get the right nose-down ass-up "stance" that was in fashion. Those air shocks turned the shocks in to ultra stiff springs and carried the weight of the car on the shock mounts. The cars rode like shit, didn't transfer weight correctly when in an actual drag race, and could punch through the shock mounts. It was stupid but we thought we were cool. Sure, we did the work ourselves but that was because we didn't have money. Since then fads have come and gone and it all amounts to dumb kids trying to look cool. This too will pass, and then some new stupid fad will show up.

I hate the "muscle guard" who think every old metal should be restored with a V8. I think they're ruining the classic car scene by junking perfectly serviceable engines and ruining the character of those old cars by making it so you can't look at the right pedal without going into a one wheel peel. All of you should hurry up and die so I can cruise around in an old wagon with a six and not give a fuck.

I'm not being serious, but really any car group can fire off things they hate about another group. Yes quite a few of the "stancers" are broke idiots who need a punch in the face. Just like the lowrider/mini trucks of the late 80s and early 90s or the shaggin wagon crowd in the 70s or the over-roided street racers of the 60s. This is nothing new that the popular thing can a) be done wrong and b) be disliked by a group that isn't as popular.

In this frightening scenario, you would be shunned by those people, unfortunately.

But there's good news! The "bro-dawgs" would flock to you as they would mistakenly recognize you as one of their own. They would adopt you seemingly against your will. You would be thrust into a land of flat-brim baseball caps of teams with whom you have absolutely no affiliation. You will also gain the ability to add the prefix/suffix "yo" into all of your sentences. You would also be equipped with the proper amount of, what the kids would say, "ice". Regardless of gender and status, you will refer to everyone as "bro".

They will guide you through their own personal lifestyles. There will be drama, but everything will be fine. In fact, everything is fantastic! Things could not be going better. That is, until you utter words like "bling bling" or "jiggy".

This triggers a silent alarm. The "bro-dawgs" will recognize that something is amiss. They will eventually realize that they misjudged your coolness from "back in da day" when they first found you chanting their mating call.

You have now been shunned by two groups. As devastating as this may seem, you're in luck! Someone from your original group will have heard you say "bling bling" or "jiggy" from the night before. His word traverses to the rest of the original group members. As they discuss your usage of outdated phrases, they come to the conclusion that you could not have meant to say the word "swag" unironically.

They accept you back, apologizing for not realizing your joke. They ask if they can buy you a beer as a sign of forgiveness.

"Totes," you say, deadpanned.

The cycle continues...

Theres a guy in my office who says "hashtag swag" (#swag) whenever he accomplishes something, thinks something stupid was done, when he hears something he likes, or for anything for that matter.

It breaks you down quickly.....

I don't appreciate it when you stall at each light because you think pushing 500hp out of 2 liters is street-driveable. It rarely is and its unlikely most people's are unless they're professionals who do that for a living. The guy I know who had a 450+ HP Saab 9-3 had it die pretty regularly in traffic. It was funny at first but then it just became a road hazard. Same with the local guy who lost one of his wheels and crashed while in traffic. probably because he had too much spacer and not enough wheel stud or whatever. My point of mentioning that is that anything can be done incorrectly and unsafely. I like a properly sorted muscle car or tuner like I appreciate a nice stance job on a car. I hate it when you cut corners and act ignorant on any of those because you become a road hazard.
